"The Wedding Singer" - Does it HOLD UP?
Okay, so I'm having an 80s movie marathon and of course "The Wedding Singer" had to be on the list. I remember LOVING this when it came out (I was like, 12 lol). Adam Sandler at his peak, Drew Barrymore being adorable... perfect rom-com recipe, right? But, rewatching it now, some of the 80s stereotypes are kinda...cringe? Like Glenn (Julia's fiance) is basically the ultimate 80s douchebag - the hair, the car, the Gordon Gekko vibes. Did we really think everyone was that over the top? And Robbie's post-dumpster-fire meltdown is hilarious, but also kinda uncomfortable now? I felt bad for the cake lady! I still love the airport serenade scene, obvi. And the Fashion Victim song is genuinely good. But I'm wondering if the nostalgia is carrying more weight than the actual movie itself? Anyone else have a similar experience rewatching this one? Let me know what you think!
