Okay, Tintin & the Lake of Sharks - A Childhood Rewatch & Thoughts
So, I decided to revisit "Tintin and the Lake of Sharks" (1972) after, like, *years*. It's one of those movies that's burned into my memory from being a kid, even though I couldn't have told you the plot for the life of me until now. What struck me this time around was how much I genuinely enjoyed the dynamic between Tintin and Haddock. Haddock's perpetually grumpy but secretly-a-softie personality really shines in this one. Especially the scene where he's trying to bravely swim away from the shark-shaped submarine, but is clearly terrified. You can just feel his desperation, which is played wonderfully. Also, Rastapopoulos? What a delightfully over-the-top villain. Some of his facial expressions are just *chef's kiss*. It's interesting how this particular villain gives off a different vibe in an animated setting compared to the live-action movie I watched previously. The animation is really charming, even if it's a bit dated by today's standards. It makes the whole thing feel wonderfully nostalgic. Okay, the plot is kinda thin (duplicating machine? really?) but it's a fun, adventurous ride with characters you really care about. I think my only real complaint is the ending felt a little rushed. Overall, it was a really enjoyable rewatch! Definitely unlocked some happy childhood memories. Would recommend if you need a dose of classic cartoon adventure with some genuinely funny moments - and just a dash of existential terror (thanks, sharks!). Also, is it just me, or does Calculus always wander into danger zones by accident? LOL.
