Blair Witch: Scariest Movie... With Zero Action?
Alright action junkies, bear with me here. I know I'm usually ranting about explosions and guys getting thrown through windows, BUT I gotta talk about The Blair Witch Project. I just re-watched it, and even though there's absolutely ZERO actual action, it still messed with my head. Like, REALLY messed with it. I remember seeing this when it first came out and thinking the shaky cam was just a cheap gimmick. Now tho, watching it knowing how influential it became, it's actually kinda brilliant. Those kids, especially Heather, you can feel the panic creeping in. Remember when she's just babbling into the camera, apologizing to everyone for getting them lost? Gut-wrenching. And the sounds at night? Forget about it. Still gives me the creeps. Honestly, the ending still pisses me off a little. Like, what was standing in the corner? We NEVER see it! And Josh's screams are just...ugh. But I guess that's the point, right? It's all left to your imagination, which is way more terrifying than any CGI monster. And they totally broke the fourth wall, and made found footage a thing. Say what you will about it, but without Blair Witch, we wouldn't have half the horror movies we get now. So yeah, even for a guy who lives for practical effects and stunt work, I gotta give The Blair Witch Project props. It's a masterclass in building tension and making the audience fill in the blanks. Just don't watch it alone in the woods. Seriously.
