Pay It Forward: Remember This One?

Okay, so I was thinking about Pay It Forward (2000) the other day, and while I wouldn't exactly call it a cinematic triumph, it definitely stuck with me. I mean, the basic premise is so simple but powerful: a kid comes up with this idea to do three good deeds for three people, and they in turn 'pay it forward' to three more. The idea is a ripple effect of kindness, right? What really gets me is how the score amplifies the emotional beats. The problem is I can't put my finger on the composer, although I remember the music being fairly good in the background. There aren't any standout themes that I can recall, but I remember thinking that it was generally well done. It really did make the whole thing feel hopeful, even when things were clearly going wrong for Trevor (Haley Joel Osment) and his mom (Helen Hunt). I remember one scene where Trevor is on the news, and the music swells as they talk about the movement. And I'll admit, it's moving. And look, the movie isn't perfect. It's pretty manipulative with the feels, especially towards the end, and some of the acting is a little cheesy. I remember Kevin Spacey being...well, Kevin Spacey. But that central concept of trying to make a real difference, even with small acts, is something that still resonates. Plus, Haley Joel Osment was a really good child actor. Anyone else got strong feelings about Pay It Forward, good or bad? Did the music have an impact on you? Now that I think about it, I bet the composer is actually well known. I'm going to have to check IMDB.
