Okay, I Have a Weird Theory About 'The Legend of Al, John, and Jack'...
So, the kids and I watched 'The Legend of Al, John, and Jack' last night. It was...something! Definitely a good choice for a family movie night. I mean, slapstick and those fedora hats are timeless. Anyway, I've been thinking about Al's memory issues, and I have a theory that maybe it's not JUST a gag. Hear me out. What if Al knew the boss was going to double-cross them all along, subconsciously, and his memory loss is his brain's way of protecting him? Like, he's repressing the really bad stuff? There are a couple of moments that make me think this. Like, when they're planning to sell out the boss, Al has these flashes of lucidity, almost like he 'remembers' something terrible is going to happen if they go through with it. He brushes it off, but those moments were too deliberately placed to just be 'haha, Al forgot again!' And remember how Al consistently forgets the boss's name, but he remembers random facts about baking? Maybe his brain is trying to steer him away from the treacherous path. I know it sounds kind of out there for a movie that's mostly about guys tripping over each other, but honestly, the writing slipped in and out of being really smart. What if the director or writer planned more substance but didn’t quite go for it? I mean, it's still a pretty silly movie on the surface, but I think there's a little bit of depth hidden in there. Maybe I'm just overthinking it because the kids were asleep on the couch, and I was left with 30 minutes of quiet. Either way, it’s a fun movie - just don’t expect 'The Godfather' when you sit down to watch, lol. Let me know what you guys thought! Any other hidden gems people wanna recommend for our next family night?
