"Tears of the Sun": Underrated SEAL Flick with Some Solid Tech Details

Alright, so I just rewatched "Tears of the Sun" the other night. It's one of those movies that I always forget exists, but when I stumble upon it, I have to watch. Bruce Willis is classic Bruce, playing the hardened SEAL Lt. Waters. The plot itself is a bit... eh, you know, SEALs extracting a doctor in Nigeria during a civil war gets complicated. But what really gets me every time is the attention to detail on the gear and tactics. The way they move as a unit, the use of hand signals, even the way they handle their weapons – it all feels very authentic. I'm not a military expert obvi, but it FEELS right, y'know? Specifically, I was paying more attention this time to the sound design during the firefights. The crack of the M4s, the thud of the grenades, and even the subtle differences in sound when they're firing in the jungle versus in a village really stood out. I think the scene where they're ambushed in the clearing, and you hear the distinct snap of the branches before the first shots are fired, is particularly well done. Plus, James Horner's score is just epic. It's got that really raw emotion that just hits you. Shame he's not with us anymore; he clearly understood the emotional core of the movie. One thing that always bugs me though is the whole 'moral dilemma' aspect. Its there, and it’s important, but it sometimes feels a bit forced? Like, we get it, they're torn between duty and doing what's right. But still, they portray the Nigerian villages really well. It doesn't feel as stereotypical as some other war movies, which I appreciate. It gives the stakes real weight. Overall, I wouldn't call it a perfect film, but it's a solid action flick with some genuinely impressive sound and tech work. Definitely worth a rewatch if you're into that kind of thing, and want a bit more than just mindless explosions. What do you guys think? Anyone else appreciate the more subtle elements of this movie?
