Unpopular Opinion Time: "A Tale of Two Sisters" is Overrated
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "A Tale of Two Sisters," the supposedly mind-bending Korean horror film. And honestly? I'm kinda scratching my head at all the praise. Don't get me wrong, it's fine. Visually, it's pretty slick, I'll give it that. That house is creepy as hell, and the whole atmosphere is suitably unsettling. But I just wasn't blown away like everyone else seems to be. I think the biggest issue is the 'twist.' Or twists, plural, really. It felt like they were trying way too hard to outsmart the audience, to the point where it just became convoluted rather than clever. By the time they were dropping those final reveals, I was more exhausted than shocked. Like, did we really need another layer? It felt like they lost sight of the emotional core, which, supposedly, was the relationship between the sisters and the terrible stepmother. I just didn't buy the hype. Good idea, maybe, but the execution felt clumsy. Also, Im Soo-jung as Su-mi, one of the sisters? Solid performance, but Lim Su-jeong as the stepmother (Eun-joo) kinda felt like she was playing a parody of a wicked stepmother most of the time. Maybe that's the point, but it didn't resonate with me. The scene with the bloody sack? Kinda dumb. It's like they had a bunch of "scary" images and just threw them all in. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, just... wildly overhyped. I guess I walked in expecting something truly revolutionary and got something pretty standard, albeit with some nice visuals added on top. Am I missing something? Anyone else feel this way, or am I just a monster with no soul? Let me know!
