Spidey 2 Still Holds Up?
Okay, so I just rewatched "Spider-Man 2" (2004) the other night. I know, I know, superhero movies are EVERYWHERE now, but I still think this one has something special. It's honestly so refreshing compared to some of the CGI-heavy stuff we get these days. The practical effects in the train scene? Chef's kiss! I've seen so many superhero films from different countries (shoutout to India's 'Minnal Murali'!), and I really appreciate when they manage to balance the spectacle with actual, real emotion. I think what really gets me about this film is Peter Parker's struggle. Tobey Maguire REALLY sells the whole "I'm tired, I'm failing, I just want to be normal" thing. The scene where he's literally throwing his Spider-Man suit in the trash? Heartbreaking! Plus, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock is just perfect. He's a sympathetic villain; you kinda understand where he's coming from even as he's wreaking havoc. Speaking of which, his introduction sequence is absolutely terrifying; like something out of a legit horror film. I know a lot of people have different opinions on which Spider-Man movie is the best, but for me, this one hits all the right notes. It's got the action, the humor, and a surprising amount of heart. It gets the core concept of Spidey - responsibility and sacrifice - so so well. It's aged like a fine wine, even if the CGI sometimes shows its age, but its the story that still resonates, ya know? What do you guys think? Am I just blinded by nostalgia, or does "Spider-Man 2" still hold up as one of the best superhero movies ever made? Let me know your thoughts!
