Munich - Brutal, but did it work as a spy thriller?

Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Munich" (yeah, I know, late to the party). I know it's, like, based on real events and super heavy, but I went in expecting something more along the lines of a classic spy thriller. And... I'm kinda mixed on whether it delivered. On one hand, the tension is palpable. The scene where they're trying to rig the bomb in the apartment? Holy crap. And Avner's growing moral conflict is definitely the most compelling part. He's basically losing his soul, right? The dude is basically turning into what he hates. But the pacing felt kinda off, and some of the 'action' felt a bit… clunky? I get that it wasn't supposed to be James Bond, but I kept waiting for some kind of chess match with the PLO, some strategic outsmarting. And instead, it was mostly just assassinations and lots of brooding. Maybe that's the point? Maybe it's supposed to be messy and morally grey. I did appreciate the international feel of it – the safe house in Paris, the arguments with their contact there... it really paints a picture of how messed up the world of intelligence is. Like, how do you even know who to trust? But overall, I think I went in with the wrong expectations. Less "cool spy movie" and more "existential crisis with explosions." Thoughts? And is there even a director listed for this one? The internet is making it impossible to figure out.
