Night at the Museum - Total escapism or just kinda...meh?
Okay, fellow film fanatics! I was just rewatching "Night at the Museum" (the OG from 2006), and I'm curious about everyone's take. As someone who usually dives deep into, ya know, Bergman and Kurosawa, this is a MASSIVE departure, lol. But sometimes you just need pure, undiluted silliness, right? I gotta admit, the premise is genius. A night watchman dealing with a museum coming to life? Come on! Ben Stiller's Larry is perfectly hapless, and Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt is pure joy. That said, did anyone else think it kinda faltered in the second act? I felt like they introduced so many amazing characters – Attila the Hun was hilarious, and the T-Rex chase was genuinely exciting – but then didn't really DO enough with them besides just having them run around causing chaos. Like, more interaction, more backstory, something! Am I the only one who felt that? And speaking of characters, the little miniatures fighting was cute, but a little under developed. I just felt they could push the humor and excitement more. I'm wondering, did anyone else wish they had leaned harder into the historical aspect? Maybe explored some interesting conflicts or alliances based on their actual historical roles? I think they just scratched the surface of a REALLY cool concept. So, what are your thoughts? Is it a harmless bit of fun or a missed opportunity? Or something in between? I'm genuinely curious what the general consensus is. Maybe I'm overthinking it! What are you're favorite scenes and why?
