Ratatouille: Pixars' Ode to Underdogs (and French Food!)

Okay, so I finally got around to re-watching "Ratatouille" the other night. Man, Pixar just gets it sometimes, ya know? It's like a modern-day "The Ugly Duckling," but with, like, escargot instead of just pond scum. Remy just wants to cook, and everyone's telling him it's impossible. Sounds familiar, am I right? It’s got that whole 'believe in yourself' vibe that all the best kids' movies had back in the day, but, like, way more stylish. I couldn't help but think of "Amadeus" during Anton Ego's review scene. Seriously, that one bite taking him back to childhood? Chills, man, literal chills running down my spine. And Linguini? Total klutz, but you root for him so damn hard. It's like watching a less cynical version of Bilko trying to pull off a scam, only the scam is haute cuisine. It’s not perfect, maybe a bit predictable at times (I mean, c'mon, it's a kids' movie) but still, super charming, super well-animated, and honestly... makes me hungry every single time. It's interesting to think about how it holds up. Visually it's still stunning. I feel like the themes are really relevant today. How many times has someone told you you can't do something? And that Gusteau quote, 'Anyone can cook!' is so great, even if its maybe not 100% true, its the spirit of it, ya know? You don't see that a lot anymore. So, yeah, "Ratatouille." Not quite "Citizen Kane," but def a solid Pixar win. Anyone else get the urge to try making ratatouille after watching? Cause I totally do. And I'll probably fail miserably, but hey, I'll try!
