Silver Surfer: Rom-Com Gold? (Hear me out!)

Okay, okay, before you all throw rotten tomatoes at me, let me explain. I know, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer isn't exactly When Harry Met Sally. But I have a theory, and it's less about superheroes punching aliens and more about…relationship dynamics. Think about it: Reed and Sue are basically in couple's therapy the entire movie! Their wedding gets interrupted again! They’re clearly struggling with work-life balance (superheroing vs. planning a wedding? Nightmare fuel). It’s all so relatable in a weird, heightened, cosmic-powered way. And then there's the whole Silver Surfer thing. He’s this misunderstood, shiny dude just trying to save his planet, right? Kind of like that brooding artist character in every '90s rom-com. He needs someone to see him, to understand his motives. Eventually Susan Storm is able to get through to him and find out the real bad guy is Galactus, a planet-eating celestial being. Galactus is the ultimate overbearing parent figure, am I right? The Surfer is just trying to break free and make his own choices! It's like a cosmic version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding but with more silver and less spanakopita. Plus, you can't deny the potential for a love triangle. Sue clearly has a moment of connection with the Surfer. Johnny even gets the powers of the surfer, so maybe that's foreshadowing he will become the next herald of Galactus, but also the next soulmate? I think the writers were trying to give us something more than just explosions, but maybe didn't know what. It's not a good rom-com, by any stretch, but the elements are there. I know, I know, it's a stretch (pun intended, obviously). But after my fifth rewatch (don't judge!), I couldn't unsee it. Maybe I’ve just been watching too many Meg Ryan movies lately. But tell me I'm not completely crazy! Are there any other movies people secretly think are rom-coms in disguise?
