Turkish Delight - Okay, that escalated quickly...
Alright, so I just finished watching 'Turkish Delight' (1973). Someone suggested it in the 'Movies That Messed You Up' thread, and yeah, I can see why. It's not exactly my usual fare, being all artsy-fartsy European drama and all, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I am *very* big on foreign action, so I thought I would give a shot to different genres of foreign film. Honestly, the first like, hour is pretty intense. The Eric character, the sculptor, is a total wild card, and his relationship with Olga... explosive is an understatement. There's a lot of nudity, which I didn't really need, but whatever. The scene where they're just trashing that motel room is kinda crazy... you can feel the tension. I mean, I'm used to seeing stuff blow up in movies, but this was more... raw. And the ending? Man, without spoiling anything, that hospital scene... jeez. Definitely wasn't expecting *that* kind of gut punch. It's weird though, 'cause it's not like I *enjoyed* it in the way I enjoy a good car chase or a massive brawl. It's more like... I respect that it went there. And Rutger Hauer is REALLY good, even if his character is a total maniac. I feel like a shower after watching it, which is not something I usually say about a movie. Anybody else seen it? What did you guys think? Maybe a little too much for me, but if you want something intense and unflinching, check it out.
