Sunshine is WAY underrated, but what was up with Pinbacker??
Okay, so I just rewatched Sunshine (2007) and I'm still low-key obsessed. Like, the visuals are STUNNING, right? And the score? Chills. Literal chills when they're approaching the sun. But I have a theory about Dr. Pinbacker – that burned-up dude. Was he actually driven mad by God, or was it something else messing with him? Hear me out. Obviously, space is super isolating, and being that close to the sun for so long probs fries your brain a bit. But maybe the Icarus I mission encountered something… else. Like, some kind of weird energy field, or even some ancient alien tech that messed with Pinbacker's head. It would explain the hardcore religious fanaticism, right? It just seems a little too convenient that he's suddenly obsessed with divine intervention. It's like, zero to crazytown real fast! Plus, his whole 'mustn't interfere' thing flies in the face of logical reasoning. I mean, it's the SUN, dude! We need it to, you know, LIVE. It's giving me major 'I've been brainwashed' vibes. And the whole thing with the mutations, maybe it wasn't from 'God's will' at all. Maybe it was from whatever that first mission found? I know, it's a bit out there, but c'mon, sci-fi! Anything is possible. What do you guys think? Am I just overthinking this? Or is there something more to Pinbacker than meets the (burnt-off) eye?
