Okay, "Benjamin Button" - Still Holds Up?
Alright, so I just re-watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" last night. Haven't seen it in YEARS. Like, probably since it first came out in '08. And, man, what a trip. It's one of those movies that's visually STUNNING, right? Like, the effects are still pretty damn good considering how long ago it was made. I completely forgot they even did that whole de-aging/aging thing. I think it was pretty good acting from Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. But honestly, for me, it was more about the whole vibe of the movie. That whole turn-of-the-century New Orleans setting is so moody and atmospheric. Makes me want to visit! Okay, so here's my biggest issue with it, and I'm curious if anyone else feels the same. It's LONG. Like, almost three hours long! And sometimes it kinda drags. Like, I get it, life is a journey, blah blah, but could we have maybe cut like, 20 minutes or something? I think this is a movie that I feel like could have really benefited from being a tighter edit. It kind of rambles. But I also think it sort of fits the story?? I dunno. I'm torn. But there are some really beautiful moments, like when Benjamin and Daisy finally like, sync up in age, and when they're sailing. That stuff still hits hard. One thing that always gets me is the hurricane scene. Like, woah! It was a spectacle in the theater, but it looked really good at home, too. I think that David Fincher really knows how to direct something to look good. Overall, I still like it, but I think it's maybe a little overhyped? But def worth a re-watch if you haven't seen it in a while or wanna chill and maybe cry a little lol. Anyone agree? Dissagree? Am I totally wrong? Let me know because I wanna hear some opinions!
