In Bruges: A bloody good dark comedy, kinda like 'Waiting for Godot' with guns

Okay, so I finally got around to watching "In Bruges" after hearing about it for like, EVER. And man, Colin Farrell? I forgot how good he can be. He's basically the angsty heart of this whole twisted fairytale. The whole vibe is just... weirdly captivating. Two hitmen stuck in Bruges after a job gone wrong, waiting for the axe to fall. Reminds me a bit of "Waiting for Godot", but y'know, with more swearing and less existential beard-stroking (though there's some of that too, if you squint). Brendan Gleeson is fantastic as the older, more contemplative Ken. He's trying to appreciate the art and beauty of Bruges, while Ray (Farrell) just wants to get drunk and get out. Their dynamic is gold. Ralph Fiennes as Harry? Sheesh. He brings the scary and the seriously unhinged. The scene where Harry shows up is intense. There's this bizarre contrast between the beautiful, historical setting and the brutal violence about to erupt, and it just WORKs. It's stylish without being pretentious, funny without being goofy. It's a bit slow-burn, so if you need constant explosions, this ain't it. But if you're into dark humor, great dialogue, and morally ambiguous characters contemplating their place in the universe (or at least, whether Bruges is a dump), then you should definitely give it a shot. Plus, who doesn't love a good medieval town as a backdrop for a modern crime story? Seriously, Bruges is practically another character in the movie. I am not sure about the director either. Overall, I'd say it's probably one of the best black comedies I've seen in a while, and I'm adding it to my "rewatch soon" pile. Not quite a perfect score, maybe an 8/10? But definitely worth your time.
