Okay, Hellboy II: Still Holds Up!
So last night me and the crew finally got around to rewatching Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I hadn't seen it in ages, and honestly, I forgot how much fun it is! Like, the troll market scene alone is just incredible. The creature design in this movie is top-tier, seriously. And Abe gets to be so darn charming! I kinda have a crush on him, ngl. I think what really makes this movie work is the balance of humor and action. Ron Perlman is just perfect as Hellboy, and the dynamic between him and Liz is actually really sweet (even when they're arguing...which is a lot). The whole 'should Hellboy be public or not' thing is a cool theme too. Prince Nuada is a pretty compelling villain, even if his plan is a little bit…extreme, lol. The Golden Army itself was kinda underwhelming though, tbh. Like, all that build-up and then BAM, pretty quick fight? Still, the visuals were gorgeous and the whole 'magic vs. technology' thing is a classic for a reason. My friend Sara was saying the ending was a little sad, with Hellboy leaving, but I'm holding out hope for a Hellboy 3 someday (even though I know its unlikely). Did anyone else feel like the ending was a bit of a downer, or am I just being too sensitive? Overall, a super solid rewatch. It's not the most 'groundbreaking' movie ever, ya know, but it's just endlessly enjoyable. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something with cool monsters, fun characters, and a whole lotta heart (even if it's a big, red, demonic heart!).
