Anyone else get ALL the feels from 'Only Old Men Are Going to Battle'?

Okay, international cinema lovers, Priya here! I just finished watching "Only Old Men Are Going to Battle" (Russian: В бой идут одни «старики́») and I'm still a bit teary-eyed. I know military movies can be a bit much sometimes, but this one really got to me. It's from 1973, directed by Leonid Bykob. Has anyone else seen it? I found myself strangely attached to these characters... Specifically, the the Singing Squadron -- that mix of camaraderie and total freaking heroism was so well done! Alexey is a badass pilot like wow, but then seeing him gently guide those scared recruits... Ugh, my heart! The scene where they're singing together right before a dogfight is so iconic. Did anyone else find it a bit cheesy at first but then totally get swept up in the emotion of it all? And I know it's a war film, but I really appreciated how they balanced the action with moments of genuine humor and even romance (that little subplot with Masha was super sweet). The ending absolutely wrecked me. I won't spoil it for folks who haven't seen it, but let's just say I needed a box of tissues. What are some of your favorite scenes or characters? Or am I just being overly sentimental here?! Tell me I'm not alone in loving this.
