"Law Abiding Citizen": Is Clyde Shelton a Genius or Just Plain Crazy?
Okay, so I re-watched "Law Abiding Citizen" last night, and OMG, it's still nuts after all these years! I know some people think it's kinda dumb, but hear me out. Gerard Butler is seriously terrifying as Clyde Shelton, the dude who loses his family and then goes on a revenge spree. The whole concept of him being this super-engineer who can rig up all these elaborate traps is a little far-fetched, I'll admit. But the part where he's just sitting in prison, COMPLETELY unbothered while chaos erupts outside? That's chilling! Jamie Foxx as Nick Rice (the DA) is good, but honestly, Clyde just steamrolls him. Remember when Nick's assistant gets blown up by a remote-controlled car right in front of him? Like, how do you even recover from that?! I found myself almost rooting for Clyde, even though he's clearly a psychopath. That's probably bad, haha. But you kinda get his frustration with the justice system, even if his methods are, um, a tad extreme. I have to say, the ending felt a little rushed and not entirely satisfying. Like, they built Clyde up to be this unstoppable force, and then BAM, it's over. I guess they needed to wrap it up somehow, but it felt like a cop-out. Still, the movie as a whole is a fun, if morally questionable, ride. What do you guys think? Team Clyde or Team "Lock Him Up and Throw Away the Key"?
