Amazing Spider-Man - Not Raimi, but Still Web-Slinging Fun?

Alright fellow Gen X'ers, moviebuff_marc here. So, I finally got around to re-watching "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012). I remember when it came out, it felt like they were trying way too hard to reboot Spidey so soon after the Raimi trilogy. And yeah, that still feels a little true. But honestly? It's not terrible. Andrew Garfield definitely brought a different vibe to Peter Parker, more angsty and skater-ish than Tobey, which, hey, maybe some of you younger folks connected with more. I kinda dug the whole 'searching for his parents' angle. That scene where he finds the hidden lab in the subway? Pretty cool, reminded me a bit of those old adventure serials I used to watch on Saturday mornings. I gotta say, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy was a highlight. Their chemistry felt way more natural compared to Peter and MJ in the Raimi films, no offense Tobey! And the Lizard? Visually, he was pretty impressive, even if his motivations were a bit…meh. It felt very "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" but with reptiles, lol. The whole origin story is rushed, though. Like, Uncle Ben's death felt more like an afterthought than a driving force. Miss ya, Cliff Robertson! Ultimately, it's a decently entertaining superhero flick. It doesn't have the same heart and campy goodness of the Raimi trilogy, and yeah, it's probably unnecessary. But it's got its own charm. Especially if you imagine that Sam Raimi’s films never existed. It's a fine reimagining. Call it a 7/10. Anyone else think Garfield was a better Spidey than Parker? Let me know!
